The term “Western Learning Spreading Eastward” was first seen in Yun Tieqiao and Xu Fengshi’s translation of “Western Learning Eastward” based on Rong Hong’s English memoirs. The so-called Western learning eastward refers to the historical process of the dissemination of Western thought in China. It usually refers to the introduction of academic thought from Europe and the United States during the two periods of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty and the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. During this period, the West used such trade ports as Hong Kong as the main propaganda platform, and used missionaries, overseas Chinese, books, and newspapers as important windows to integrate Western astronomy, physics, chemistry, medicine, geography, sociology, economics in Chinese reforming livelihood, etc. A large amount of new knowledge, such as law, applied science and technology, literature, and art, has been brought into China, which has had a significant impact on the structure of China’s entire society, academic thoughts, and political philosophy.
